Tourism Industry Panel

At last week’s meeting, we had the opportunity to video chat with three professionals in the tourism industry.  Student's at the meeting had the pleasure of hearing from Kara D. Dense, Caryn Foster, and Lynn R. Swann.  The panel was run by Aly Goodwin Gregg, who we had the opportunity to speak to after the meeting in the video above. PRSSA Takes on Bateman Case Study Competition

Mountaineers With Purpose, a group formed by members of WVU's PRSSA chapter, took on the Bateman Case Study competition this spring semester to put our public relations skills to the test. According to prssa.org, "the Bateman Case Study Competition is PRSSA’s premier national case study competition for public relations students and gives you an opportunity to apply your classroom education and internship experiences to create and implement a full public relations campaign." This year, we built a campaign for a non-profit called With Purpose; the organization's main purpose is to raise awareness for pediatric cancer. Our team's goal was to spread the word about With Purpose, as well as advocate more research for treatments for childhood cancer.

A Trip to the Pittsburgh Penguins

On January 24, WVU’s chapter of PRSSA took a trip to visit the home of the Pittsburgh Penguin’s at the PPG arena.  The journey started around 9:30 a.m. when seven members loaded two cars to make their way to Pittsburgh.  Once there, Tom McMillian, Vice President of Communications, greeted us and gave us a tour of the facility. McMillian brought us down to the home bench where the players normally sit during the games, it was super cool being that close to the ice, considering there’s normally a glass panel separating the spectators from the action.  After that we headed up to the fourth floor where we were greeted by James Santilli, Vice President of Marketing, and brought to a conference room for a presentation.
