New Year, New Advisor!

Happy 2020, WVU PRSSA!

Welcome to your New Year and fresh new start to endless adventure. My newest adventure is being selected as your new faculty advisor, which is an absolute honor. I look forward to working alongside you and supporting you as you learn, grow and connect through your PRSSA experience here at WVU.

This transition is a natural progression for me as a new-to-the-Reed College of Media professor, and one that connects nicely to my role as the PR faculty advisor of the Martin Hall Agency (MHA). The Martin Hall Agency is the Reed College of Media’s student-run advertising and public relations agency, and I am excited to serve in this linking role to the endless opportunities PR students enjoy in our AD+PR  program.

I have watched my mentor and colleague, Dr. Geah Pressgrove, lead WVU PRSSA through the highest chapter achievements. She left big shoes to fill but I am comforted knowing that she is always at the ready to help us as I grow into this new role alongside you all.

So far, we are off to a great start and we have an exciting year ahead of us. Here is a quick preview of our 2020 outlook so far:

Legislative Day – on Feb. 7 a group of us will spend the day at our State Capitol and learn how to create a compelling communication strategy around legislative issues.

Let’s Eat – our annual diversity event that supports our community, raises awareness of complex cultures, and offers committee members a rewarding event planning experience.

West Virginia PRSA Hall of Fame – we will work alongside our state’s professional chapter and other statewide student chapters to launch a WV PRSA HoF. We might even host the first event!

Grand Bash – Together with MHA, we will fundraise for travel costs for the International Conference, which will be held in Nashville, Oct. 25-27. You do not want to miss this electrifying event.

Plus, our chapter will continue to enjoy the action-packed Wednesday evening programs in MH 201, a Pittsburgh Agency field trip every semester, and countless other fun and engaging activities throughout the year.

I implore you to get involved and enjoy the perks of PRSSA leadership, which includes an opportunity to attend the annual PRSSA Leadership Assembly in sunny Scottsdale, Arizona.

Let’s make the 2020/2021 academic year another fun, exhilarating Star Chapter year for our WVU PRSSA.

Let’s Go!
