National Conference Tips

By: Payton Otterman

Attending PRSSA’s National Conference in Boston last year was an amazing opportunity to learn about  public relations  from industry professionals and to network with other students from different universities. Here are some tips to get you prepared for National Conference in Austin this year!

  • Take notes during the panels you attend.

You’re hearing from top PR professionals talk about how they got where they are today.  You’ll want to take down notes while you’re listening, that way in the future you can reference them.

  • Ask questions during the panels you attend.

This is especially important if you’re attending a panel for a career that you’re interested in. The speakers are there to help you unlock your full potential, so make the most of it.

  • Choose to attend the panels that you’re most interested in.

You don’t need to attend every panel, but rather the ones that spark your interest. If you try and attend every panel, even the ones you’re not interested in, you’re not going to get the most out of your experience because you’re cutting panels short that might offer more relevant information to you.

  • Introduce yourself to those around you.

You never know where you’re going to meet lifelong friends or potential colleagues- National Conference is a great way to network across the country.

  • Put your phone away.

You’re paying for the opportunity to learn and network, not to stare at your phone and talk to people digitally.

  • And most importantly, have fun!

National Conference is not only a learning opportunity, but it’s a great time to have fun while exploring new cities and meeting people who share the common goal of becoming a PR professional. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, make the most of it!
