1. First Access to Reed College Mentorship Program
Each year, our resident Career Services guru, Eric Minor,
coordinates a mentorship program for students at the Reed
College of Media. Each student is paired with a professional
that most closely fits within their career interest spectrum.
PRSSA members will receive priority when they submit their
applications by noon on Oct. 6 so that they will have the
opportunity to be paired with the best fit for their interests.
2. Exclusive PRSSA Scholarships
Around the start of each new year, PRSSA National and PRSA
release scholarship applications for dues paying members.
These scholarships are worth thousands of dollars and usually
have a simple application process. You can visit the PRSSA
website here to learn more about each scholarship opportunity.
3. Competitions and National
Recognition
Throughout the academic year, PRSSA and PRSA host a
variety of competitions that dues members can be a part of.
These competitions provide members with experience in event
planning, research, public speaking, content creation, and much
more, all while serving a real-world client. Don’t feel too
overwhelmed- you will have help along the way from executive
board members and faculty.
4. Attend PRSSA Conferences
Each year, PRSSA hosts regional conferences across the
country, and one national conference in the Fall. Dues paying
members are able to receive a discounted registration cost to
these events. By attending these conferences, you’ll be able to
build your network and make connections with fellow PR
students and professionals who could lead you to your next
career. And of course, you get to travel!
This year our chapter is heading to Boston, MA for the National
Conference on Oct. 6. You’ll be able to follow their trip on social
media and get an inside look into what you can be a part of next
year!
5. Agency Tours
Along with the national and regional conferences, our chapter
organizes an agency tour each semester where our members
will have the chance to go behind-the-scenes of different
industries in PR and communications. Some of the previous
companies our chapter has toured have been Gatesman +
Dave, Ketchum, Brunner, and many more! You’ll also have
access to the MyPRSA Jobcenter and PRSSA Internship Center
programs that will help you find your perfect career.
These are only a few reasons why being a dues paying member
can be a beneficial outlet for you to begin building your network,
portfolio and leadership experience.
If you’re still unsure if your membership will be worth it, stop by
our next chapter meeting on Sept. 28 at 5:30pm in Martin Hall
Room 201 and hear testimonials from current members.
